چکیده

In this paper, the performance of multichannel transmission in cognitive radio is studied. Both constraints and interference limitations are considered. The activities of the primary users (PU)s are initially detected by cognitive users (CU)s who perform sensing process over multiple channels. They transmit in a single channel at variable power and rates depending on the channel sensing decisions and the fading environment. The cognitive operation is modeled as a state transition model in which all possible scenarios are studied. The constraint of the cognitive users is investigated through statistical analysis. Analytical form for the effective capacity of the cognitive radio channel is found. Optimal power allocation and optimal channel selection criterion are obtained. Impact of several parameters on the transmission performance, as channel sensing parameters, number of available channels, fading and other, are identified through numerical example. QoS

Study and Analysis of Spectrum Sensing Techniques and Implementation of Matched Filters in Cognitive Radio Systems

Spectrum sensing is an essential enabling functionality for cognitive radio networks to detect spectrum holes and opportunistically use the under-utilized frequency bands without causing harmful interference to legacy networks. This paper introduces a novel wideband spectrum sensing technique, called multiband joint detection, which jointly detects the signal energy levels over multiple frequen...

The case for multiband sensing

Cognitive radios achieve opportunistic use of underutilized spectrum by sensing and using frequency bands only if no primary user is detected. Previous approaches to spectrum sensing have examined one band at a time. We argue that this ignores the sparsity inherent to the problem: not only are a large fraction of bands unused, but the number of primary antenna sites is far smaller than the numb...

On Achievable Performance of Cognitive Radio Systems

In this contribution1, we investigate the idea of using cognitive radio to reuse locally unused spectrum to increase the total system capacity. We consider a multiband/wideband system in which the primary and cognitive users wish to communicate to different receivers, subject to mutual interference and assume that each user knows only his channel and the unused spectrum through adequate sensing...

Multiband Sensing for Area Recovery

Cognitive radios are being proposed for recovering unused spectrum holes in time and space. Unfortunately the metric of detection-sensitivity while being useful for algorithm designers is not indicative of a system’s ability to recover spectrum holes (especially spectrum holes in space). In this paper we extend the safety and performance metrics of Fear of Harmful Interference (FHI ) and Probab...

An Energy-efficient Clustering Based Interference Reduction in Cognitive Radio Sensor Networks

Cognitive Radio (CR) is promising technique for access of spectrum resources. The sensors deployed vast environmental area are in need of hundreds to thousands of sensor nodes which is mostly energy constrained and their batteries are not rechargeable in most Wireless Sensor Networks applications. A Cognitive Radio Sensor Network (CRSN) is defined as wireless sensor network equipped with cognit...
